Wildfire
This piece was begun during the hot summer of 1990 when I was living in North Wales. While ideas were being formulated, I happened to read a report in the local newspaper about a forest fire that had apparently begun in two separate areas, the walls of flame then moving towards each other.
The piece runs continuously for about twelve minutes. It does not attempt to describe the progress of a fire, but it does begin with just a flicker of activity, moves through a series of climaxes and becomes a raging furnace at the close - a conclusion of considerable ferocity.
